Recently, I´ve been reading an interesting book of “energy psychiatrist” Judith Orloff about emotional freedom. She deals with the relationship between medicine, intuition and spirituality, and our dreams actually play a big role in her healing methods.
It´s been curious to find out how much our dreams can teach us, tell about ourselves, and how we can actually use our ability to dream. What cought my eye was the part of flying dreams. These dreams hightlight our strengths and spiritual achievements.
Believe it or not, flying is a natural state for us, it´s just that most of us forget about it so easily when we get stuck on the ground for the rest of our lives. Flying dreams make part of psychological dreams and also lucid dreams, which means that you need to be aware that you are dreaming.
Imagine yourself in the air and try to sense how it feels like… Most of us have at least once in life time dreamt about having the wings to fly. Feel the lightness of your body and wind on your skin, enjoy the landscapes and you might feel yourself very small in this huge unlimited space. If you manage to do this in your dreams you can get a new and different perspective on things in you everyday life as well. It can be a sign that you are top on things and it can be a sign of your own personal sense of power. From another point of view, flying dreams can also symbolise a strong mind and will. In this case your flying dream should offer you an amazing sense of freedom.
BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU FLY…
If you can fly and it feels natural, liberating and joyful, it could mean that you are full of strength and creativity and no negativity can retard your way.
But it´s not said that you can actually fly when you get the wings in your dream. You might also feel fear of flying or just being high. This might tell you that you are afraid of challenges and success.
Or you might be able to fly, but you are struggling because different obstacles, such as trees or mountains, appear in your way. These obstacles can symbolise things and people who create barriers in your real life. It can also mean that you are lacking confidence.
MAKE A WISH
The most interesting thing here is that you can actually make a wish to your dreams. Before sleeping you can desire: “I’d like to be able to fly in my dream”. And if you manage in this, at best your flying dream can be a solution to your negativity, low self-esteem, or it can help you when you are constantly over-criticizing yourself.
First of all, you can meditate on the experience on flying, using your imagination. You can imagine and feel the heat of the sun on your shoulders and how your hair is fluttering in the wind. Maybe you can feel the sensation of joy, confidence and strength. Then just before sleeping make a wish about a flying dream…
In the morning, it’s important to write down all you remember about your dream (even if you didn’t manage to fly that night). For this, keep a special dream notebook and a pen available next to the bed (or of course you can also write it down on you mobile if you like!), so that you are able to do it immediately when you are waking up before you start forgetting about the details of your dream.
A flying dream might not happen at the first time when you desire it. At least for one week, repeat the same wish every night before sleeping. And in the morning again, take note of your dreams.
This might be a slow process for many of us, since we are not used to have a dialogue with our dreams and we don’t know exactly how we should deal with them. However, slowly we get more familiar with our dream world and most probably we’ll start understanding it better. And even if we still didn’t manage to fly, at least we can discover many incredible things about ourselves.
Wishing you an amazing fly.
